Oral Surgery
Fixing Facial Issues, Underbites, and Discomfort
Sometimes, children are born with oral or facial problems that affect their way of living. An underbite, for example, can cause difficulty and discomfort while eating as well as low self-esteem. On your child’s first dental visit, we will determine whether they require any oral and maxillofacial surgery. Common oral surgery services include tooth extractions, while maxillofacial surgery treats abnormalities in the face, jaw, neck, and hard and soft tissues of the mouth.
Common Oral Surgery: Tooth Extractions
Tooth extractions are a standard and common procedure performed by our dental specialists. For younger children, tooth removal follows a specific criteria and process to ensure the best results. In older children, one of the most common reasons for the procedure is the impact of wisdom teeth.
We generally recommend removing wisdom teeth before symptoms arise, so they don’t cause trouble. Our dental specialists will typically perform simple tooth extractions, while more invasive procedures are done by our oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
